The Importance of Hearing Protection
Human ears are designed to pick up low levels of natural sounds. In an uninjured ear, the hair cells with their fine stereocilia can receive acoustic signal normally. All of our exciting machines and inventions have created a whole range of unnatural sounds that the ear isn’t designed to handle. When the stereo-cilia are repeatedly exposed to excessive doses of noise over 85dB, the noise can signaficiantly damage the ear-stereocilia. Damaged ears cannot be repaired,resulting in permanent hearing loss.
